Chhayanaut celebrates Nazrul Utsab

The nation celebrated the 115th birth anniversary of national Poet Kazi Nazrul Islam in befitting manner on Sunday.
To mark the occasion, various socio-cultural organisations held elaborate programmes across the country.
Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy, the state-sponsored national cultural centre, celebrated the day through a commemorative programme at its National Theatre Auditorium in the city on Sunday evening.
Litterateur Prof Zillur Rahman Siddiqui spoke at the discussion as chief guest.
In the wake of the discussion, renowned Nazrul Sangeet singers Khilkhil Kazi, Sujit Mustafa, Yakub Ali, Shaheed Kabir Polash, Suman Chowdhury, Nasima Shaheen Fancy, Anindita, Zannat-E-Ferdous Lucky, Pradip Nandi, Rahat Ara Geeti, Krishna Acharya and Babu Rahman rendered Nazrul Sangeet at the programme.
Besides, prominent elocutionists Syed Hasan Imam, Ahkamullah, Ashraful Alam, Mahmuda Akhter recited from Nazrul at the event.
Nabachetana, under the guidance of Tusher Chakrabarty, and Bangladesh Academy of Fine Arts, under the guidance of Farhana Chowdhury, performed dance on the occasion.

Nazrul Institute
To mark the day with grandeur, Nazrul Institute launched a three-day celebrations at its Kobi Bhaban at Dhanmondi in the city on Sunday.
With chairman of Nazrul Institute Trustee Board Prof Emeritus Dr Rafiqul Islam in the chair, its Executive Director Ekram Ahmed delivered welcome speech on the occasion.
Nazrul Academy also launched its three-day programme at the National Music and Dance Centre Auditorium of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy on Sunday.
Poet Mohammad Nurul Huda, former executive director of Nazrul Institute, inaugurated the programme as chief guest.
President of Nazrul Academy Dr Ashraf Siddiqui presided over the programme.
Singers of Swadhin Bangla Betar Kendra – Abdul Jabbar, Sujoy Shyam, Mala Khurram, Ashfaqur Rahman Khan and Kamal Lohani — were there as special guests.
Prominent singers Mustafa Zaman Abbasi and Khilkhil Kazi also attended the programme, among others.

Chhyanaut programme
Chhayanaut, a leading cultural organization of the country celebrated the 115th birth anniversary of national poet Kazi Nazrul Islam through organizing a two-day Nazrul Utsab -1421 at its Dhanmondi Sangskritik Bhaban.
The event featured discussions, musical performances, dance recitals and recitation. A total of 60 artistes took part in the festival that concluded on Sunday. . Highlighting the poet’s inspirational work, the leading artistes celebrated the revolutionary spirit of Nazrul to overcome the demeaning social and political norms.
On the first day of the Utsab, teachers and students of Chhayanaut performed a number of Nazrul’s timeless compositions in the auditorium of Chhayanaut Sangskritik Bhaban. on Saturday evening.
“Nazrul Utsab 1421” opened with a choral rendition “Hey Partho Sharothi Bajao Bajao Ponchojonyo Shonkho” by the students and teachers of the organisation. Chhayanaut dance department presented a vibrant dance performance synchronised with the patriotic song of Nazrul “E Ki Oporup Rupe Maa Tomar.”
Noted singer and secretary general of Chhayanaut, Khairul Anam Shakil delivered a speech on the legacy of the literary titan and the impact of his work on our daily life while Vice-president of the organisation Dr Sarwar Ali expressed his gratitude towards the littérateur. Professor Seraj Salekin delivered a speech on the poet’s inspirational work and his secularist and revolutionary spirit on the opening day.
The soulful presentation of Nazrul’s songs performed by promising and prominent singers mesmerised a houseful audience. Students of Chhayanaut rendered “Nobin Asha Jaglo Je Re Aaj” and “Chondromollica Chondromollica” in chorus after the discussion. An array of solo performances also enriched the programme.
Nazrul exponent Khairul Anam Shakil rendered a solo titled “Pashane Bhangale Ghum.” Anindita Chowdhury presented “More Deke Low Sei Deshe,” Roksana Hossain Munni performed “Prothom Prodip Jalo,” Didaru Karim presented “Pordeshi Bodhua” and Layeka Bashir rendered a romantic piece “Ekhono Otheni Chand” among others. The rainy day was further amplified by romantic solos of the legendary poet and Mahidul Islam recited one of Nazrul’s famous poems.
The lively performance of other choral numbers including “Ei Amader Bangladesh,” and “Mora Jhonjhar Moto Uddam” by Nazrul Institute artistes captured the hearts of the audience.
The programme featured performances of prominent singers like Shahin Samad, Ferdous Ara, Yeakub Ali Khan, Kalpana Anam, Lina Tapashi Khan, Mahmudul Hasan, Shukla Pal Setu, Rezwanul Haque, Nahian Durdana Suchi and many others. A soulful rendition of the number “Rum Jhum Jhum Nupur” was worthy of the audience’s admiration which matched the perfect ambiance of the rainy day. The two-day festival wrapped up with the group rendition of the National Anthem.
Besides, the satellite television channels of the country also aired an array of quality programmes all through the day to mark the occasion.

Poet’s  family members placed wreaths at the Mazar beside Dhaka University Mosque.

To celebrate the day, Channel i telecast a set of programmes featuring play, telefilm, documentary, musical soiree and so on.
The channel also arranged a daylong festival styled ‘AB Bank-Channel i Nazrul Jayonti Mela 2014’ on its premises in the city on Sunday.
Prominent Nazrul Sangeet singer Nilima Das was honoured with lifetime achievement award at the fair.
Eminent music maestros Sudhin Das and Khalid Hossain, Managing Director of Channel i Faridur Reza Sagar, its Head of News Shykh Seraj, its Director Mukit Majumder Babu, woman entrepreneur Kona Reza and singer Ferdous Ara attended the award giving ceremony, among others.
Besides, two new albums of renowned Nazrul Sangeet singer Ferdous Ara – ‘Walton Ghore Ghore Gaaner Asar’ and ‘Nazrul Sangeet Samagra Prothom Khanda’ — were unveiled at the fair.
‘Bahire Bakul Baner’, a music DVD of Nazrul Sangeet by Ferdous Ara, was also unveiled at the event.
Channel i aired live the fair that featured music, drawing, recitation, reminiscing and discussion, from 11.05am to 2.00pm on the day.

Nazrul Academy
The Nazrul Academy on Sunday held a session of songs of the national poet Nazrul Islam that Swadhin Bangla Betar Kendra aired during the war of independence simultaneously marking the 115th anniversary of Nazrul’s birth and 43rd anniversary of the radio channel.
The session of songs as part of three-day celebrations at the Music and Dance Centre at the Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy featured popular numbers such as Eki aparup rupe ma tomar herinu palli janani, Durgama giri kantar maru dustara parabar and Joy bangla, banglar joy, the signature song of Swadhin Bangla Betar Kendra.
The Bangladesh government in exile formally started Betar Kendra broadcast from Kolkata on May 25, 1971 by abolishing Swadhin Bangla Biplabi Betar Kendra, which began its journey with limited transmission at Kalurgaht in Chittagong on May 26, 1971.
Biplabi Betar Kendra was later moved to Agartala, India in April to continue with transmission until the establishment of Swadhin Bangla Betar Kendra on May 25.
Poet and researcher Muhammad Nurul Huda opened the three-day programme as the chief guest.
Swadhin Bangla Betar Kendra artistes such as Mala Khurram,  Sujeya Shyam, Abdul Jabbar, Ashfaqur Rahman Khan and head of news Kamal Lohani, Mustafa Zaman Abbasi and New Age editor Nurul Kabir, among others, addressed the programme that former Bangla Academy director general Ashraf Siddiqui presided over.
