Chhatra Dal leaders attacked on Madhur Canteen premises
Four were injured at the time
Chhatra Dal leaders have come under attack on the Madhur Canteen premises inside Dhaka University.
They were beaten up allegedly by some Muktijuddho Mancha members yesterday afternoon.
Kaneta Yalamlam, a Chhatra Dal activist, claimed that Muktijuddho Mancha President Aminul Islam Bulbul and General Secretary Al Mamun, along with the platform’s DU unit President Sonnet Mahmud carried out the attack.
Aminul is the current vice-president of Chhatra League and Mamun is former deputy Liberation War and research affairs secretary of Chhatra League central committee.
Mansura Alam, Chhatra Dal’s vice-president candidate of Shamsunnahar hall union during Ducsu polls, claimed that Muktijuddho Mancha leaders assaulted Chhatra Dal leaders after holding a press conference inside Madhur Canteen.
Leaders of the Chhatra Dal’s university unit said that the screenshots of the general secretary which went viral were fake. His Facebook account was hacked. They had arranged the press conference to clarify the matter.
Chhatra Dal’s General Secretary Iqbal Hossain Shyamol said that at present he does not have any Facebook account. The Facebook account of Iqbal and President Fazlur Rahman Khokon were hacked into soon after their committee was formed.
Fazlur Rahman filed a general diary on October 5 and Iqbal on October 7 with Tejgaon Industrial Police Station over the matter.
Earlier in the press conference, the platform declared Chhatra Dal unwanted on Dhaka University campus.
The BNP student wing men Mamun Khan (SM Hall 2003-04), Shahjahan Shaon (Zia Hall 2008-09), Tarek Hasan Mamun (Zia Hall 2010-11) and Nayeem were injured during the attack.
They were later taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) by rickshaws, while guarded by a protest procession.
Chhatra Dal men are not students of this university, Dhaka University Proctor AKM Golam Rabbani said, while speaking to Dhaka Tribune.
“DU authorities are concerned about its current students, not about Chhatra Dal. They (Chhatra Dal) are trying to destabilize the campus and are making the educational environment too risky by their organizational activities.”
“Solution lies there if they practice politics only for students’ welfare,” he added.
