Chief Election Commissioner Kazi Rakibuddin Ahmad on Tuesday said the nation is waiting with concern for a compromise after the two major political camps placed proposals for the formation of an election-time government.
“The people of the country are worriedly looking for a compromise after proposals of two major political alliances,” he told reporters at his Election Commission Secretariat office.
He expressed his satisfaction as the door for reaching an understanding opened to break the political stalemate saying that everyone expects a peaceful election with the participation of all political parties. “The peaceful transfer of power is the essence of democracy.”
The CEC said the schedule for the 10th parliamentary election will be announced 35-48 days before the deadline citing that the countdown for the election will start on October 27.
Replying to a query whether the commission will wait anymore for the compromise to amend the election code of conduct, he said the solution, whatever it is, will be reflected on the code of conduct.
The election code of conduct for political parties and candidates will be changed very soon. The code will come into effect from the announcement of the election schedules, he added.

Rakibuddin hoped that a good solution to the political standoff will come out finally.
