Bangladesh Nationalist Party on Wednesday complained that the government had transferred 14 cases against the party’s chairperson, Khaleda Zia, to a special court only to harass her.
BNP’s senior joint secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi at a news briefing at the party’s central office said it was an exposure of ‘vindictive politics.’
He also said it was a part of the government’s blueprint to ‘influence the trial process’ by trying Khaleda Zia ‘in camera.’
A total of 14 cases against Khaleda Zia were transferred to a special court of Dhaka metropolitan sessions judge set up on the Alia Madrassah ground at Bakshibazar through issuing a circular by the law ministry on Monday.
The 14 cases were transferred to hamper the BNP chief’s political activities, he said claiming that it was a part of ‘conspiracy’ and ‘ill-attempt’ to hold the next general election ‘unilaterally’.
Referring to the current cold wave across the country for last few days, Rizvi alleged that the government was yet to distribute adequate warm clothes among the poor.
He came down heavily on the ruling Awami League and its associate organisation Bangladesh Chhara League ove forcibly throwing out a female student of Bangladesh Agriculture University from a hall by BCL activists.
Law minister Anisul Huq said the cases against Khaleda were shifted to a single court for security concern.
