Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, Amir Khasru Mahmud and Ruhul Kabir Rizvi have also been accused
A case has been filed against BNP acting chairman Tarique Rahman, and several top leaders of the party, on allegations of assaulting AB Siddique, president of Bangladesh Jananetri Parishad, a pro-Awami League platform.
Siddique filed the case with a Dhaka court on Sunday, under sections 506,383,394,109, and 34 of the Penal Code, alleging that, on April 30, the attackers threatened him to withdraw all cases against BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia, and tear up his ‘Mujib’ coat.
The case was filed in the court of Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate, Abu Sufian Md Noman.
After recording statement of the complainant, the court instructed Bangshal police station officer-in-charge (OC), to investigate the allegations and file a report by June 23.
Others accused in the case are- BNP Secretary General, Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, Standing Committee members–Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain, Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury, Goyeshwar Chandra Roy, Senior Joint Secretary General, Ruhul Kabir Rizvi– and another five other unnamed person.
AB Siddique alleged that, a group of unknown BNP leaders and activists stopped him on his way to the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) Court, and threatened him to withdraw all cases against BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia, Tarique, Mirza Fakhrul and several other BNP leaders and tear up his ‘Mujib’ coat.
BNP chief Khaleda Zia’s son, Tarique Rahman has been in London since September 11, 2008, after getting parole in various cases on medical grounds.
On October 10, 2018, 19 people were sentenced to death and another 19 were given life imprisonment, including ex-premier Khaleda Zia’s fugitive son Tarique Rahman, in two cases filed over the deadly grenade attack of August 21, 2004, on an Awami League rally at Bangabandhu Avenue.
