Communications minister Obaidul Quader on Friday said Bangladesh Nationalist Party’s (BNP) long march towards Teesta Barrage was failed as failure of ousting government.
“BNP’s long march was completely failed. People and also BNP’s activists and supporters were not with it because it was not a long march rather it was a car-march of some leaders,” said the minister while talking to journalists during his visit to the development work of Chatmohor-Handial road in Pabna.
Obaidul said BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia refrained from joining the march on the plea of her illness and other BNP leaders also did not join it because of hot-weather.
“BNP talked a lot about its programme, actually it has no strength, courage and capability to out the government through movement,” Quader added.
The minister said work order for the construction of Padma bridge will be given in June and the government is hopeful about completing this work within the next three and a half year.
No government is permanent, he said, adding that government will come and go but the Padma bridge will remain as an assent of the people, he said.
He also addressed a meeting of the local Awami League (AL) held at the playground of Handial High School.
Local AL lawmaker Makbul Hossain, Chatmohar upazila AL president Shakhawat Hossain Sakho, Mirza Rezaul Karim Dulal, among others, attended it.
