BNP’s Dhaka city unit convener Mirza Abbas on Thursday said they will carry out a peaceful movement for realising people’s voting rights instead of falling into the government’s provocation trap.
“We won’t fall into the instigation trap of the government. We’ll force this regime to hold an acceptable election for establishing people’s voting rights by carrying out our movement in a peaceful manner,” he told a discussion.
Jatiyatabadi Muktijoddha Prajanma organised the programme at the Jatiya Press Club, marking the 7th ‘Jail Release Day’ of BNP senior vice chairman Tarique Rahman.
Abbas criticised the ruling party leaders for what he said their indecent remarks against BNP founder Ziaur Rahman and his family. “Heartbeats of Awami League leaders and some intellectuals go out of control when they hear Ziaur Rahman’s name while feel the pinch hearing Tarique Rahman’s name.”
He alleged that some low-profile people who have been made ministers are making offensive comments about Zia and Tarique only to appease the Prime Minister.
The BNP standing committee member also slammed the ministers for their remarks that BNP has no strength for waging a movement, saying why the government is filing ‘false’ cases one after another against BNP men if it does not consider BNP a capable party.
Claiming that Traique is still sick and undergoing treatment in London, Abbas said he will return home after his full recovery.
He alleged that the current ‘illegal’ regime is trying to annihilate BNP like that of the 1/11 administration.
Opposing the notational broadcast policy and government’s move to re-empower parliament to impeach judges, the BNP leader said the government is snatching all rights of people only to perpetuate its illegal power.
