Chittagong’s Mirsarai upazila unit BNP yesterday withdrew the dawn-dusk hartal they had earlier called for today, after receiving assurances from the administration that their demands would be met.
BNP Mirsarai upazila unit Convenor Nurul Amin told the Dhaka Tribune that police have assured them of fulfilling their demands within 72 hours therefore they decided to halt their programme.
“Police have already arrested two in this connection,” he said adding that if the police fail to fulfil their demands by the stipulated time they would call for further programmes.
The local BNP leaders made the decision after meetings with three officer-in-charges from Sitakunda, Mirsarai and Jorarganj police stations. The meetings were led by assistant superintendent of police of Sitakunda circle, on Friday night and yesterday morning, the BNP leader added.

On Thursday night, some miscreants stabbed Adil to death in the upazila’s Bhorer Bazar area after which Adil’s father Abu Taher Chowdhury lodged a case with Mirsarai police station accusing 28 people.
Mirsarai police station OC Imtiaz Bhuiyan said they arrested two persons in connection with the murder and they were conducting drives to apprehend the others involved.
