Countering Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s statement that ruled out the possibility of holding talks to resolve the political crisis, the BNP on Saturday has warned of waging war against the government if it does not respond to the call of dialogue.
BNP Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi uttered the warning while addressing a press briefing at party’s Nayapaltan headquarters in the capital on Saturday.
Rizvi was speaking to counter the Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s statement that no talks with ‘killers and criminals’ BNP.
The BNP leader reiterated to hold talks to oversee the next polls under a non-partisan interim government.
“In democracy there is always a place of discussion or debate but the Awami League does not believe in it,” Rizvi said.
“Prime minister wants to bring peace in grave in the country burying the dialogue call, which she could not do and rather a tough war would be waged.”
Addressing the journalists at her official residence Gonobhaban on Saturday morning, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has rejected the possibility of any dialogue between her and BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia accusing BNP founder Ziaur Rahman for killing her parents and other relatives.
The premier said she will not have any dialogue with Khaleda Zia.
She said: “The nation has witnessed that she misbehaved with me by refusing to attend my dinner. Enough is enough. I will not hold any dialogue with her anymore.”
Countering the prime minister’s statement that she can’t find any reason why it has been saying about holding talks with BNP, Rizvi said, “It seemed not to be realised to her. Now she does not understand anything except repressing the opposition party.”
He also said the January 5 election was like the prime minister’s family birthday programme and if BNP participated in the election it could see a different game.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in an interview with BBC has ruled out possibilities of talks with the BNP on holding a fresh, all-inclusive general election being demanded by the party.
“BNP has made a mistake as they did not participate in the January 5 election and they have to pay for it”, she said.
“I do not understand why some people are so busy about talks. I myself called her as a prime minister but everyone knows the result.”
Pointing his finger to the premier, Rizvi said Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has been terming the opposition’s movement as criminal activities.
“Then what about Narayanganj killing, Akram killing in Feni, Kalshi incident, Sanaullah Babu killing and Tawki killing,” he posed question.
