The party is going to hold the meeting at the chairperson’s Gulshan office at 8pm tonight
After around two months off passing a crucial time, the BNP will hold its Standing Committee’s meeting tonight to devise the next course of action.
The party is going to hold the meeting at the chairperson’s Gulshan office at 8pm tonight, Shamimur Rahman, assistant office secretary of the BNP, said.
The last meeting of the BNP’s highest policymaking body was held on November 13. The party could not hold any meeting of the committee as at least four of its members were behind bars while many were on the run to avoid getting arrested in cases filed against them. Even BNP acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir was in hiding.
However, although the party could not hold any meeting, party Chairperson Khaleda Zia made a few major decisions during that period.
The BNP also passed a tough time during the period as its Nayapaltan office and the chairperson’s Gulshan office were cordoned off. Khaleda Zia was also confined to her residence for some time.
After apparently failing to resist the January 5 national poll, which the BNP-led 18-party alliance boycotted, the party backtracked from its street movement and Khaleda on Tuesday said they would take some time to reorganise the party as many leaders and activists had been either in jail or on the run while many had been killed.
