The Bangladesh Nationalist Party on Friday said it will join upcoming municipality elections to ‘rescue democracy and fulfill people’s desire’ provided its certain conditions are fulfilled.
The conditions that the party gave to join the elections are- revise the polls schedule, defer the elections date for at least 15 days, stop the arrests of BNP leaders in the name of joint force drives across the country, release of the detained leaders and activists of BNP and transfer of the local Upazila Nirbahi Officers and officer-in-charge of police in municipalities.
BNP spokesperson Asaduzzaman Ripon put forwarded the conditions at a press briefing at party’s central office in city’s Nayapaltan area this morning.
Elections to 234 municipal councils, with party symbols for mayoral posts for the first time, are scheduled for December 30.
The deadline for submission of nominations would expire on December 3
