BNP lawmaker Mahbub Uddin Khokon has withdrawn a notice he had submitted to the parliament secretariat seeking discussion in the House on restoration of the caretaker government system.
“It was his (Khokon) personal. He has withdrawn it,” Opposition Chief Whip Zainul Abdin Farroque said at a press briefing after a meeting of the BNP Parliamentary Party on Monday afternoon.
Farroque said they would not place any proposal on the caretaker government before the parliament during the session.
The main opposition party has been demanding the restoration of the caretaker system since it was abolished through the 15th amendment to the Constitution on June 30, 2011.
Leader of the Opposition in parliament Khaleda Zia chaired the BNPPP meeting at the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban.
Later, the opposition lawmakers have joined the budget session.
BNP lawmaker Khokon had earlier submitted the notice.
Parliament secretariat sources said opposition MPs have submitted more than two dozen notices demanding discussions on other important issues including the unofficial ban on holding rallies and meetings in the capital.
Lawmakers from the BNP and its allies Jamaat-e-Islami and Bangladesh Jatiya Party have remained absent from the House for 83 consecutive sittings since March last year, said the sources.
They will lose their membership of parliament if they are absent from seven more consecutive sittings, the sources mentioned.
