Police arrested BNP joint secretary general Salahuddin Ahmed in the city’s Gulshan area on Monday night.
Sources said plainclothes police arrested Salahuddin around 9:50pm while he was going to the Gulshan residence of BNP vice chairman Morshed Khan from BNP Chairperson’s Gulshan office.
Earlier in the evening, Salahuddin at a press conference at the BNP Chairperson’s office demanded proper treatment of his party’s arrested senior leaders, including acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, who are sick.
The former state minister for communications also urged the country’s people to make the 36-hour hartal of the 18-party alliance to be enforced at 6m Tuesday a success with their spontaneous participation.
Salahuddin, a former MP from Cox’s Bazar, had been taking care of BNP’s official activities since the arrest of its office secretary Ruhul Kabir Rizvi during a police raid on its central office on March 11.
