BNP spokesman Dr Asaduzzaman Ripon on Friday said his party is ‘happy’ as Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina was recognised as one of the this year’s ‘Champions of the Earth’ – the highest accolade of the UN Environmental Programme (Unep).
“We’re happy for any achievement of Bangladesh. We’re also happy as the Prime Minister has received the award,” the BNP leader said replying to a question at a press conference at its Nayapaltan Central Office in the city.
Ripon said Bangladeshi national environmental scientist Dr Atiq Rahman received the prestigious award eight years ago. The Prime Minister is the second Bangladeshi who got the award. “We’re happy as the Prime Minister got it,” he added.
About the return of Bangladeshi hajj pilgrims, the BNP international affairs secretary said they have to endure huge sufferings on their way back home right from the airport.
He urged the government to take appropriate measures for the smooth of the pilgrims to their homes.
Turning to the ongoing movement of admission seekers demanding cancellation of the results of MBBS and Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) admission tests, Ripon said their movement is logical and his party supports the movement.
The BNP leader demanded judicial inquiry into the death of UGC official Omar Siraj, arrested over question paper leak of the medical admission tests, in Rab custody.
