Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has brought back 37 Bangladesh nationals rescued by Myanmar.
They have been taken from Ghumdhum to Cox’s Bazar, where they would be handed over to police and the civil administration, BGB-17 Battalion Commander Lt Col Khandker Saiful Alam said.
The district administration will make arrangements to hand them over to their families after immigration formalities and interrogation, he added.
He also said the 37 were from Habiganj, Kishoreganj, Bogra, Sirajganj, Sunamganj, Madarpur and Jamalpur districts.
Earlier in the morning, the BGB held a flag meeting with Myanmar’s border force and immigration department on the Myanmar side of the Ghumdhum border in Naikkhyangchharhi.
Major Imran Ullah Sarker headed the 10-member Bangladesh team.
After the rescue of 208 boat people on May 21, Myanmar claimed 200 of them were Bangladesh nationals.
The BGB returned 150 of them after checking their identities on June 8.
The foreign ministry took step to bring the 37 others back after being sure about their identities.
On May 29, Myanmar Navy rescued 727 migrants, identified as Bangladeshis and Rohingyas by international media.
