After around two decades of split — factions of both Bangladesh Federal Union of Journalists (BFUJ) and Dhaka Union of Journalists (DUJ) are likely to be reunited soon.
The leaders of all the four unions — two backed by the Awami League and others by the BNP — will meet on Monday to discuss about getting united.
In 1992, both the BFUJ and DUJ divided into two factions.
Iqbal Sobhan Chowdhury, president of a faction of BFUJ, made the announcement at a sit-in at the premises of Jatiya press club on Sunday.
Top leaders of the two unions took oath to be united holding their hands high together during the sit-in staged demanding arrest of killers and trail of all murders including that of Sagar-Runi and other journalists.
Iqbal said the journalists have united on the blood of Sagar and Runi and the unions are going to be united centering their murders.
Ruhul Amin Gazi, president of other BFUJ faction, said, “Divisions among journalists are damaging for the profession. It will be easy to realise demand if the journalists remain united.”
He said the unison of journalists will help bring down the killing and torture of journalists.
