The Bangladesh Financial Intelligence Unit (BFIU) today asked banks to provide detailed information of accounts and transactions of Tabith M Awal along with three of his family members.
The three others: are Tafsir M Awal, Tajwar M Awal and Maya Margherita Barolo Rizvi Awal.
Tabith, Tafsir and Tajwar are sons of Abdul Awal Mintoo, a vice chairman of the central executive committee of Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP).
Maya Margherita Barolo Rizvi Awal is the spouse of Tasfir, according to the BFIU letter.
Tabith earlier took part in the mayoral election of Dhaka North City Corporation as a candidate of BNP.
Besides, the intelligence unit working to prevent money laundering and terrorist financing also asked to send the account details of Monsoon Holdings Ltd, whose proprietor is Tafsir.
Banks have been asked to send the information by September 8.
A BFIU official said the intelligence unit had taken the move as part of its effort to carry out probe against money laundering cases.
Tabith did not respond to The Daily Star’s request for comment over mobile phone.
