BD always ready to host any ICC event: PM

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Sunday said Bangladesh is always ready to host any International Cricket Council (ICC)-sponsored cricket tournament.

 

The Prime Minister came up with the offer when visiting ICC president Alan Assac met her at her office.

 

PM’s Special Assistant Mahbubul Hoque Shakil, who was present during the meeting, later briefed reporters.

 

West Indies Cricket Board president Whycliffe Cameron Dave, Singapore Cricket Boar president Imran Khawja, ICC director Neil Speight and ICC chief executive David Richardson accompanied the ICC president.

 

The Prime Minister said a cricket academy is being built in Cox’s Bazar to improve the skill of Bangladesh cricketers.

 

She said her government not only supports cricket but also promotes all the popular sports, and mentioned the superb performance of the Bangladesh team in the Special Olympics.

 

Sheikh Hasina said an international standard sports complex is being built at Savar for the physically challenged people.

 

ICC president Alan Assac thanked the Prime Minister for her government’s all-out support for successful holding of the ICC T20 World Cup.

 

He praised the sportsmanship attitude of the Bangladeshi audience, and was effusive while mentioning the cricket stadium in Cox’s Bazar, the longest unbroken beach of the world.

 

Assac also praised the women cricket team of the country saying that they have proved themselves in the world cricket within a short time.

 

Bangladesh Cricket Board president Nazmul Ahsan Papon, MP was, among others, present during the meeting.
