Terming Myanmar’s Rohingya issue as “sensitive”, Foreign Minister Abul Hasan Mahmood Ali today told the parliament that Bangladesh is trying to resolve the growing Rohingya crisis using different international channels.

Replying to lawmakers’ queries, the foreign minister said the Rohingya issue is in a sensitive stage at present.

“We are trying to resolve the matter through different channels by engaging international organisations,” the minister said.

The foreign minister also said, “Almost all countries and international organisations including the United Nations and human rights organisations are supporting Bangladesh, the way we are handling the issue.”

“Even some member countries of ASEAN [The Association of Southeast Asian Nations] have urged Myanmar to settle the Rohingya issue,” Mahmood Ali said while replying to a supplementary question from ruling Awami League MP AKM Zahangir Hossain.

On November 30, UN refugee agency said the actual number of newcomer Rohingya refugees could be more than 10,000 since Myanmar military started crackdown on the religious minority community in Rakhine state.
