Bangladesh is going to honour another batch of 60 foreigners, including Pakistani politicians Khan Abdul Ghaffar Khan and Khan Abdul Wali Khan, for their contributions to the 1971 Liberation War.
It will be the seventh round of conferring honours on the country’s “foreign friends”.
Former Indian President Fakhruddin Ali Ahmed and former Prime Minister Gulzarilal Nanda will get the “Bangladesh Liberation War Honour”, while 58 others will be bestowed with the “Friends of Liberation War Honour”.
Bangladesh President Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will present the awards to the honourees or their representatives tomorrow at the Bangabandhu International Conference Centre.
In earlier phases, former Indian Prime Minister Indira Gandhi was awarded the “Bangladesh Freedom Honour”, 13 received the “Bangladesh Liberation War Honour”, while 264 got the “Friends of Liberation War Honour”.
Sonia Gandhi received the award on behalf of Indira Gandhi in the first round in July 2011, while the sixth round was held in March this year.
