Activists of Bangladesh’s Shahbagh movement will hold a rally on Wednesday in Dhaka’s commercial hub Motijheel, to press home their demand for the death penalty to Jamaat-e-Islami war criminals, the Daily Star reported.
The rally, scheduled to begin at 3:00 pm at the Motijheel intersection, is expected to draw people from several parts of Dhaka, the report said.
The protest at the Shahbagh intersection, popularly known as Projonmo Chattar, stepped into 23rd consecutive day on Wednesday, vibrating with revolutionary slogans and songs, the report said.
A mass signature campaign, initiated on February 22 in demand of death penalty to war criminals, resumed on Wednesday. The 12-hour-long campaign resumes at 10:00am every day and will continue till March 7, according to the report.
Also on Wednesday, two top leaders of Bangladesh Khelafat Andolon and Islami Ain Bastabayan Committee were arrested in Dhaka’s Mohammarpur area.
Both leaders are suspected with instigating the violence at Baitul Mukarram National Mosque on February 22, the report said.
