Bangladesh today recognised Kosovo as an independent country.
The cabinet approved a foreign ministry proposal for the recognition of The Republic of Kosovo as a sovereign and independent country.
With the approval, Bangladesh has become the 114th country to recognise the independence of Kosovo, Cabinet Secretary Mohammad Shafiul Alam told reporters after the weekly cabinet meeting at the Secretariat in Dhaka.
Kosovo declared its independence on February 17, 2008 from Serbia. Immediately US, UK, Germany, France, and Australia, among others recognised Kosovo as an independent country.
The cabinet also approved in principle Sheikh Hasina National Youth Development Centre Act-2017 in order to turn the centre into an institute which has been operating since 1998.
According to the law, there would be an executive council to run the institute. Secretary to the Ministry of Youth would be the chief of the council. The main objective of the institute is to build it as a think tank body of the youths to turn them as national resources, said the cabinet secretary.
It also approved National Youth Policy-2017 according to which people aged from 18 to 35 years would be considered as youths.
