The ICT -2 on Tuesday asked a Bangladesh Protidin reporter to appear before it with a written statement explaining why contempt of court charges should not be brought against him for his report making a prediction on the verdict of war crimes trial.
Reporter Ahmed Al Ameen will have to appear before the International Crimes Tribunal-2 on December 6.
The tribunal led by Justice ATM Fazle Kabir also directed the editor of the daily to submit his explanation on the issue through his lawyer on the same day.
Bangladesh Protidin on December 3 published a report of Ahmed Al Ameen with the headline ‘verdict against Sayedee before the victory day’.
Among the 13 cases filed in connection with the crimes against humanity committed during the 1971 Liberation War, the trial proceedings against Jamaat leader Delawar Hossain Sayedee is in the advanced stage, the report said.
If everything goes smoothly, the tribunal may deliver its first judgment in the case filed against Sayedee, it said.
There is a rumour among the concerned tribunal officials that the court may deliver the verdict on December 13 (Thursday), the report added.
