Bangladesh economy is growing fast sidetracking the political turmoil of 2013 and it going to be a $100 billion dollar economy soon, said International Chamber of Commerce- Bangladesh (ICCB) president Mahbubur Rahman last week.
He made the comment while inaugurating ICC Knowledge Centre Workshop on Incoterms 2010 and Uniform Rules for Demand Guarantees (URDG) on May 31 at a local Hotel in the capital.
He said he is appreciative of the role of the country’s private sector and in particular the export industries such garment, leather, pharmaceuticals and  shipbuilding for making spectacular contributions in the growth.
He also praised the contributions of the migrant workers who are supporting the economy with regular remittances which stood at over S$14 billion in the outgoing fiscal to meet the demand for much needed foreign exchange reserves to pay the import bills, he said.
Pointing at forex reserves at $20bliion now, he also praised the role of Bangladesh Bank in harnessing the reserves. But what is needed now, he said is the need for creating a stable and congenial investment environment to attract both domestic and foreign direct investment to set up basic industries.
This is important as without it the country will not be able to sustain the growth momentum and achieve the higher target of becoming a middle country within next few years, he opined.
ICC Knowledge Centre is a joint initiative of International Chamber of Commerce Bangladesh (ICCB) and HSBC, Bangladesh. It is a first ever unique learning, networking and knowledge facilitation platform for the professionals of the local trading community engaging in international trade.
Chairman, Executive Committee, ICC Knowledge Centre said Md. Fazlul Hoque, said ICC Knowledge Centre would play vital role to create trade specialists to enrich their knowledge.
