Bangladesh, India army chiefs hold video conference to enhance bilateral defence

India’s new Army Chief Gen Manoj Pande today (May 11, 2022) spoke to his Bangladeshi counterpart Gen S M Shafiuddin Ahmed through video interaction with a focus on enhancing bilateral defence cooperation.

“General Manoj Pande #COAS had a video interaction with General S M Shafiuddin Ahmed, Chief of Army Staff, #BangladeshArmy and discussed ways to enhance the defence cooperation between both the Nations,” the Indian Army said on its official Twitter handle.

It is understood that the two army chiefs also exchanged views on the evolving geopolitical situation as well as its possible impact on regional security, reports our New Delhi correspondent.

Defence and security ties between India and Bangladesh are on a higher trajectory in the last few years.

The year 2021 marked the 50th anniversary of the Liberation of Bangladesh.

Reflecting close ties, India is also hosting several events to mark the 50th anniversary of the 1971 war that led to the liberation of Bangladesh.
