Bangladesh and India on Thursday agreed to work together on containing ‘terrorism’ and ‘violent extremism’ and workout ways to reach the goal.
Visiting Indian external affairs secretary Subrahmanyam Jaishankar after a bilateral meeting told newsmen of the two countries’ eagerness in containing extremism. He said India supports Bangladesh in fight against terror, especially attacks against vulnerable sections.
He laid stress on devising some mechanism to contain terrorism in the region.
Bangladesh foreign secretary M Shahidul Haque also echoed him.
The bilateral meeting was held at state guesthouse Padma in the noon. A wide range of bilateral issues, including security, trade and investment, and review implementation of various development projects came on discussion.
Earlier at Jaishankar had a breakfast meeting at Hotel Sonargaon with noted personalities of various sectors. He told the dignitaries that Bangladesh and India can resolve their pending bilateral issues through maintaining good relation
Jaishankar also met prime minister Sheikh Hasina at Ganabhaban on Wednesday evening.
He arrived Dhaka on a two-day visit on Wednesday afternoon to discuss issues relating to bilateral relations.
This was Jaishankar’s third visit to the country.
