The main opposition Bangladesh Nationalist Party on Sunday said that the country has become a monarchy of the Sheikh family.
‘Yesterday you saw the Supreme Court Bar election. It showed how intense the level of arrogance and boasting of power can be,’ BNP senior joint secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi said at a discussion.
Zia Cyber Force organised the discussion at the BNP’s Naya Paltan central office.
He said that prime minister Sheikh Hasina’s family has turned the country into a feudal state.
The bar association elections experienced the violence perpetrated by the Juba League, he added.
‘Secretary candidate barrister Ruhul Quddus Kazal has been arrested, but why was Juthi [Nahid Sultana, the wife of Juba League chairman Sheikh Fazle Shams Parash] not arrested? They fought among themselves but the BNP people got arrested,’ he said.
He said that in a place like the Supreme Court they took away the right to vote and the results as well.
‘Awami League candidates have been declared winners by faking the results. If the votes were counted properly, the full panel of BNP would have won,’ he added.
The BNP leader said that the ‘dummy government’ has taken away all the rights of the people.
‘The rights of the people to elect the prime minister have been taken away. They care least that 50 million educated youths are unemployed today. There is no initiative to create work opportunities for them,’ he added.
BNP chairperson’s special assistant Shamsur Rahman Shimul Biswas, Krishak Dal leader Hasan Jafir Tuhin and Shahidul Islam Babul spoke the programme, among others.
