World Bank President Jim Yong Kim said Bangladesh has set an example on poverty eradication for all countries.
At an event attended by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, Kim spoke of of Bangladesh’s “impressive record” and hoped other countries can ‘learn from Bangladesh’.
The event, marking the End Poverty Day was jointly hosted by the Bangladesh government and the World Bank.
Speaking of the 100 million people that came out of extreme poverty globally the past year, he said the world still needs to learn from Bangladesh.
“Bangladesh’s experiences over the past few decades are among the most important to achieve the goal of ending extreme poverty throughout the world,” Kim said.
“Bangladesh recognised the importance of innovation in eradicating poverty very early,” he added.
Referring to handling diseases like diarrhoea, he said investments in these diseases occurred despite countless challenges.
