US Ambassador Dan W Mozena on Monday said Banglabandha land port could become an easy route to increase regional connectivity between Bangladesh and other South Asian countries.
The US envoy came up with the remark after his visit to the port in Tentulia upazila of Panchagarh.
Mozena said each country would be benefited with intra-regional trade communication and connectivity, and the US government is working for increasing intra-border trade among the countries of this region.
He told reporters that the relations between India and Bangladesh are improving day by day and hoped that both the countries would be able to resolve their problems, including the border one, through discussions.
The US diplomat suggested introducing human travelling between Bangladesh and India through the land port.
If the old Silk Road is reopened, Mozena said, it will create an ample opportunity in expanding trade, communication, economic development and creating employment opportunities.
Mozena also exchanged views with the land port revenue officers, importers and exporters and C& F agents over trade among India, Bangladesh and Nepal through the land port.
Mozena’s wife Grace Mozena, deputy commissioner Md Tofazzal Hossain Miah, police super Sharirar Rahman , among others, accompanied him during the visit.
