Health and Family Welfare Minister Mohammad Nasim on Friday said the government will build a 146-kilometre river embankment cum road from the Bangabandhu Bridge to Teesta estuary.
The Water Development Board has undertaken a project in this regard and already started the work on the embankment, he said, adding that the project will be completed with the financial assistance of World Bank.
The minister was addressing a view exchange meeting, organised by the Water Development Board, on the protection of river and its initiatives under development projects at the Kazipur upazila auditorium.
Nasim said that with the implementation of the project, the people of the adjoining areas will be saved from river erosion and also have easy communication.
The present government is determined to implement the project, he said, adding that a survey is being conducted to identify the people and property that will be affected by the project.
The Health and Family Welfare Minister said the government will provide due compensation to the affected people and will rebuild all the affected institutions including mosques, temples, schools and collages.
A nursing training institute will be built in Kazipur upazila of the district, he assured.
Habibur Rahman, MP (Sherpur-Dhunot of Bogra), Kazipur upazila chairman Mozammel Haque Bakul, former director general of the WDB Mokhlesuzzaman, among others, spoke at the view exchange programme. WDB’s ECRC project director Sardar Sirajul Islam presided.
