Badrul’s mother says she is shocked by her son’s brutality on Khadiza

“I am shocked by his brutality,” she told bdnews24.com at their house in Sunamganj’s Chhatak on Thursday.

She fell sick after hearing the news of the incident that has ignited protests and drawn condemnations across Bangladesh.

“I don’t understand why Badrul would do something like this. I had struggled to let him study. I thought he would become someone someday. But he has destroyed all the dreams,” Dilara said.

She also said she would accept whatever sentence his son, also a leader of Bangladesh Chhatra League, is handed down if found guilty.

Badrul, a student of economics department at the Shahjalal University of Science and Technology, is the second among four brothers and a sister. Their father died several months ago.

Dilara said Badrul was most meritorious among the siblings.

The family say they were not enquiring about Badrul after the hacking of Khadiza Begum Nargis on MC College premises on Monday.

“We are poor. Boro Bhai (Badrul) had to struggle to continue his studies. He should not have done this,” his younger brother Khaled Hossain said.

“We are not giving him legal help,” he added.

Their uncle Muhibul Islam said, “We want his punishment. He has shamed us.”

Badrul was also a part-time teacher at Alhajj Ayazur Rahman High School for two years.

“He was fired the day after the MC College incident happened,” Mokhlisur Rahman, the school’s managing committee chief, said.

Khadiza’s uncle Abdul Kuddus has started a case against Badrul. Critically wounded Khadiza is battling for her life at a hospital in Dhaka.

Police said her refusal to Badrul’s offer for a relationship led to the attack.
