Australia will send a representative to an ICC security meeting in crisis-torn Bangladesh next week as concerns rise about the nation’s ability to guarantee player safety in this year’s World Twenty20 tournament.   Violence and strikes surrounded elections in Bangladesh this month.   Cricket Australia is sending its anti-corruption and security manager, Sean Carroll, to a briefing on January 20 that will be attended by ICC security chiefs and representatives of the other countries competing in the 16-nation event, reports Sydney Morning Herald.   Australia are scheduled to be based in the capital, Dhaka, and play all their games there but like other teams want to ensure their players and staff will not be in danger.   “The safety and security of the Australian team and its support staff is Cricket Australia’s highest priority,” a CA spokesman said. “Ahead of the World T20 in Bangladesh, we will work with the ICC to undertake a thorough review of risks and proposed security arrangements for the tournament.”   The players, via the Federation of International Cricketers’ Associations, will also be represented at the security meeting and will be guided by the advice of security advisor Reg Dickason and his company Eastern Star International.   An Australian who now works as a security consultant with the English team, Dickason will provide an independent threat assessment to FICA. “The players and the player associations have a high level of trust in his advice,” said FICA executive chairman Paul Marsh.   “We’ve gone on plenty of tours when he’s said it’s OK and we’ve pulled out of some events when he’s suggested that it’s not. We’ve got a high level of trust there and that’s what we’ll be relying on as we move towards this event.”

  1. NGO’s survey reveals that 85% of the Hindu property went into the hands of the ruling party Awami League since East Pakistan (Bangladesh) was created in 1947. The Awami League supporters are responsible for most of the riots taking place against Hindus & because of fear the Hindus overwhelmingly supported the Awami League in election to escape the wrath and not because of any other reason. A proper investigation survey would reveal the real truth- Munir Ibrahim Muntasir:Dhaka, NGO worker. 13,.01.2014=====
MAIN OPPOSITION SECULAR BANGLADESH NATIONALIST PARTY BLAMES THE RULING AWAMI LEAGUERS FOR ATTACK ON HINDUS
BNP has asked its 18 party alliance to set up vigil for ensuring security & providing protection of minorities
Opposition BNP on Tuesday held the ruling party ‘cadres’ responsible for the recent attacks and repression on minority communities and asked the 18-party men to prevent post-election violence against Hindus and other minority groups.“The ruling party men as part of their strategy to shift the blame on the opposition are attacking the members of minority communities,” said BNP vice chairman Selima Rahman.Just half-an-hour before her arrest, Selima came up with the allegation at a press briefing at her Gulshan residence. She alleged the members of the Hindu community, their houses and property were being attacked in post-election violence carried out by the ruling party cadres.“We strongly condemn any kind of terror attacks on Hindus and other religious minorities. We also call upon the country’s people to remain alert about ensuring the security of minorities,” the BNP leader added. The minority communities in Jessore, Dinajpur, Satkhira, Chittagong and Thakurgaon districts came under attacks by miscreants following the 10th parliamentary elections held on Sunday amid the boycott the opposition parties, including BNP.
Selima, on behalf of BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia, asked the opposition leaders and activists of all levels to set up area-wise vigil across the country to prevent post-election violence against the minorities and ensure their security. As her attention was drawn to media reports that BNP-Jamaat men were behind the attacks on the minorities, the former state minister said, “It’s not right. BNP doesn’t believe in terrorism and violence. Ruling party men are involved in the attacks.”Demanding fair investigations into the recent incidents, Selima said as the government found involvement of Jubo League and Chhatra League men in the incidents of petrol bomb blasts, torching buses and hurling bombs at the houses of justices, the investigations into the incidents are not progressing. So, the country’s people can understand who are carrying out terrorist cats and acts of sabotage.”She alleged the government is trying to shift the blame onto the opposition for terror attacks by resorting to falsehood and propaganda to mislead the country’s people.www.unbconnect.com// http://www.bdchronicle.com.
