Miscreants tried to torch the election office in Chittagong on the second day of the Opposition’s blockade programme.
Witnesses said several youths hurled petrol bombs at the office around 6:30pm on Wednesday and fled the scene.
Chittagong’s regional election official Abdul Baten said the office – located at the Bangla College Intersection in Rahmatganj – had adequate security measures.
“We were on the first floor of the office when two explosions took place outside,” he said
On-duty police officials fired several rounds in the air.
Baten said the election office had not sustained any damage and no-one was injured.
Kotwali police Sub-Inspector Utpal Barua said no arrests had been made.
Suspected Opposition adherents had torched the election offices in Feni and Bogra on the first day of the blockade.
Earlier in the day, they had fought pitched battles with police at Colonel Haat.
