Police today found 29 grenades and bomb making materials at a Chittagong house rented by an arrested militant suspect who attacked Comilla police check post yesterday.
Meanwhile, the law enforcers detained the suspected militant Hasan’s sister and bother-in-law in Comilla hours after the attack, police said.
Other recovered items include: 280 packets of metal balls, bomb making materials, nine machetes, banners inscribed in ‘Allahu’ in Arabic letters and clothes, our staff correspondent reports quoting Nur-e-Alom Mia, superintendent of Chittagong police, from the spot.
Law enforcers have sealed the flat, the SP said.
Based on information given by Hasan, one of the two suspected militants who was arrested following yesterday’s attack, members of Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC) unit of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) took part in the drive that started last night, Sairul Islam, officer-in-charge (OC) of Mirsharai Police Station, said.
A bomb disposal team of Chittagong Metropolitan Police (CMP) reached the spot in Mirsharai Sadar upazila.
Teams of Rapid Action Battalion and members of district police were also seen at the spot.
The two militant suspects — Hasan and Jashim – hurled crude bombs at police during a routine check of a bus on Dhaka-Chittagong highway in Comilla’s Chandina yesterday.
A backpack, containing several handmade bombs, was seized from Hasan’s possession.
Law enforcers also conducted drives in Shantir Haat and Talatola Chouki area in Patiya Sadar upazila last night, Sheikh Md Neyamat Ullah, OC of Patiya Police Station, said without giving any details.

Indentifying himself a clothes trader, Hasan, came to rent the ground floor flat in February 1, Rizwan, 45, owner of the two storied building in Mirsharai, told the correspondent.
