The family of a high official of BRTA came under attack at their Dhaka city residence by a man on Monday night that left the housewife killed.
Krishna Kaberi Biswas, wife of Shitangshu Shekhar Biswas, who is a deputy director Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA), was hacked to death in the horrifying attack, carried out by the man apparently known to the family.
Shitangshu and his two daughters, Sruti Biswas, 14, and Audri Biswas, were also injured in the incident.
Prottoy Biswas, nephew of Shitangshu, a doctor at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Medical College (BSMMU), said the attacker came in disguise to their residence on Iqbal road in Mohammadpur at about 900pm.
The man, carrying a cake, requested Shitangshu to eat it, addressing him as ‘sir’. Once Shitangshu ate the cake, he fell down on the floor.
The person then hit him (Shitangshu) on head by a heavy ‘object’. On hearing the noise, Shitangshu’s younger daughter Audri and his wife came to the scene and the man immediately jumped on them and hit them with sharp weapon. Shitangshu’s elder daughter hid herself in a room and informed it to their relatives over phone.
The man then torched the house releasing flammables he brought with him. He threw Shitangshu’s injured wife into the fire, newphew Prottoy added.
The attacker also hit Shruti before he fled the scene.
Upon hearing the screaming and calls from Shruti, the neighours rushed to the spot and rescued the injured and sent them to Dhaka Medical College Hospital where doctor declared Kaberi dead at 12:30am.
Shitangshu and his daughters are now undergoing treatment at Mahakhali Metropolitan Hospital.
