A court here on Sunday issued a warrant for the arrest of suspended General Manager (West zone) of Bangladesh Railway Yusuf Ali Mridha and three others in a case filed for irregularities in the railway recruitment.

SM Mujibur Rahman, Senior Special Judge of Chittagong Metropolitan Court, also directed the authorities concerned to confiscate the wealth of the four accused who had been on the run.

Three other accused are railway social welfare officer Golam Kibria and two illegally appointed employees Shahida Akter and Nazim Uddin.

Last year, deputy director Nazim Uddin of Anti Corruption Commission filed the case with Kotwali Police Station against six people, including the four and illegally appointed railway staff M Ismail Hossain and Sohel Rana, on charge of irregularities and corruption in the recruitment process against the post of Travellling Ticket Examiner of Bangladesh Railway.

On September 22, police submitted the charge sheet in the case before the court.

The court also fixed November 17 for next hearing of the case.

On April 9 last year, Border Guard Bangladesh detained former Railways Minister Suranjut Sengupta’s assistant personal secretary and Mridha along with Tk 70 lakh stashed in a car. It was also believed that the money was collected from job aspirants to railway as bribe.

Later, Mridha was suspended over the scam.
