The Election Commission will deploy army members in eight constituencies of six districts during re-voting in 392 polling centres there on January 16.
The commission at its meeting on Wednesday took the decision over the army deployment before and after the re-voting, said a highly-placed source at the EC Secretariat.
The eight constituencies are Dinajpur-4, Kurigram-4, Gaibandha-1, 3 and 4, Bogra-7, Jessore-5 and Laxmipur-1.
The voting in the 392 polling stations was suspended due to widespread violence during the January-5 parliamentary elections.
“The EC will send a letter to the authorities concerned soon asking for deploying army members from respective district headquarters in the re-voting areas,” he told UNB.
EC sources said the army personnel are likely to be kept deployed in the re-voting areas till January 18, though the commission will take the final decision on the duration of the army deployment in its law and order meeting about the re-polling on Saturday.
The top brasses of law-enforcement agencies, including police, Rab, BGB and Ansar, as well as representatives of the armed forces division will attend Saturday’s meeting.
Of the 392 polling centres, 57 are in Dinajpur-4, two in Kurigram-4, 54 in Gaibandha-1, 80 in Gaibandha-3, 72 in Gaibandha-4, 46 in Bogra-7, 60 in Jessore-5 and 21 centres in Laxmipur-1.
