Another RAB member has been arrested on charges of his suspected involvement in the Narayanganj seven murders.
Detectives detained Lance Corporal Ruhul Amin, 32, from his home in Baufol Upazila on Tuesday morning.
Army Lance Corporal Amin was on deputation to Rapid Action Battalion 11 in Narayanganj when the murders took place.
Baufol Police Station OC Naresh Chandra Karmakar said Amin was arrested in connection with a murder case filed at Fatulla Model Police Station.
Immediately after the arrest detective sleuths took Amin to Narayanganj.
A total of 11 RAB men were arrested in this sensational murder.
Seven, including Narayanganj City Councillor Nazrul Islam and senior lawyer Chandan Kumar Sarkar, were abducted on Apr 27. Their bodies were found floating in the Shitalakkhya River a few days later.
Nazrul’s family filed a case naming local Awami League leader Nur Hossain. Nazrul’s father-in-law alleged that Nur had paid RAB Tk 60 million to commit the murders.
Nur Hossain disappeared after the bodies were recovered and was later arrested in West Bengal, along with two associates, for being an illegal immigrant there.
The armed forces sent the then RAB 11 commander Lt Col Tarek Sayeed Mohammad and officers Maj Arif Hossain and Lt Commander MM Rana into forced retirement after the allegations against them surfaced.
After their arrest, they gave confessional statements at court.
A total of 10 people have so far ‘confessed’ to the seven murders in the court. Another 12 people, including nine RAB personnel, have testified as witnesses.
