Another Bangladeshi killed in BSF firing

Yet another Bangladeshi youth was shot dead by the Indian Border Security Force in the Dahagram border area of Patgram upazila in Lalmonirhat early Sunday, six days after a member of the Border Guard Bangladesh was shot dead along the Benapole border in Jashore.

The deceased is Rabiul Islam Tuklu, 34, son of Afzal Hossain in the Dangapra area of the upazila.

Local people said that Tuklu and seven others entered India crossing the border at about 4:30am when a patrol team of the Indian  BSF opened fire on them, leaving the Bangladeshi youth dead on the spot.

Dahagram union parishad chairman Habibur Rahman informed the Indian police that a Bangladeshi was shot dead by the BSF.

Later, the Indian police recovered the body.

 

 

BGB-51 Battalion Panbari camp subedar Amanuzzaman said that a protest letter was sent to the BSF in this regard.

In the early hours of January 22, BGB sepoy Mohammad Roisudddin died at an Indian hospital after being shot at Dhannya Khola on the India-Bangladesh border at about 5:00am.

Rights group Ain O Salish Kendra documented that 30 Bangladeshis were killed at the hands of the Indian BSF alone in 2023, while the number was 23, including 16 shooting deaths in 2022.

In 2021, the number of shooting deaths was 16, and another was tortured to death, the rights group added.
