AL the real nationalist force in country’s politics: Joy

Prime Minister’s ICT adviser Sajeeb Wazed Joy on Wednesday claimed that Bangladesh Awami League is the “real nationalist party” in the country, not the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP).

“Is the party (BNP), which allowed war criminals to carry national flag and appointed them as ministers, a nationalist party? The Awami League that struggled for the independence and democracy, that fights for combating terrorism and brings war criminals to justice, is the real nationalist party,” he told a seminar.

Suchinta Foundation organised the seminar titled, ‘Terrorism and Conspiracy versus Development and Democracy’ at Bangabandhu International Conference Centre in the capital on Wednesday afternoon.

Newly elected city mayors Annisul Huq and Sayeed Khokan, poet Syed Shamsul Haque, Islamic scholar Farid Uddin Masud and journalist Mozammel Babu and Suchinta Foundation chairman Mohammad A Arafat, among others, spoke at the seminar.

Sajeeb Wazed Joy, also the son of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, said Awami League is the party which never bows down to any country in maintaining the interests of the nation. The party chief has showed the courage to execute verdicts of the war crime trials, ignoring the call of foreign leaders to halt executions, he said.

“…because she (the Prime Minister) loves the country and its people. She keeps faith in the country’s people,” he added.

The Prime Minister’s ICT adviser said many feel shy to say Joy Bangla slogan because they think Joy Bangla is the AL’s slogan, but Joy Bangla is not only a slogan of Awami League, but also the slogan of the country’s independence movement. “The people who feel shy to say Joy Bangla slogan are not Bangalees.”

Dhaka North City Corporation major Annisul Huq said the people who do not believe in the existence of Bangladesh have no right to live in the country.

He said no government across the world allows terrorism, and people of Bangladesh too will show zero tolerance to terrorism.
