AL MP Shabur dies in road crash

Driver also killed as car loses control, hits tree

Awami League parliamentarian from Barguna-2 Golam Shabur Tulu and his car driver died after the vehicle lost control and hit a tree in Bhanga upazila of Faridpur Friday afternoon.

The accident, which took place around 4:00pm, left Shabur’s brother Golam Muhith Nilu and two others travelling in the car injured critically.

Abdur Rahman, AL lawmaker from a Faridpur constituency, told The Daily Star that the incident took place in Chumurdi area on the Dhaka-Khulna highway.

All on a sudden, a wheel of the car on way to Dhaka from Barisal burst and plunged into a ditch after hitting a roadside tree, AL Joint Secretary Mahbubul Alam Hanif told The Daily Star.

A helicopter is on the way to bring Shabur’s body and the injured to the capital, Rahman said quoting Faridpur superintendent of police.

The injured — MP’s brother, his Assistant Private Secretary (APS) Shahidul Islam and Patharghata Adarsha Primary School Headmaster Harunur Rashid — have been admitted to Bhang Upazila Health Complex and later shifted to FaridpurMedicalCollegeHospital as their constitution deteriorated.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and Awami League General Secretary Syed Ashraful Islam expressed deep shock at the death of their parliament colleague, said AL Deputy Office Secretary Mrinal Kati Das.

While giving details about the accident, lawmaker Abdur Rahman also expressed his deep shock and conveyed sympathy to the grieved family.
