AL leader detained with gun at Dhaka airport

An Awami League leader has been detained with a gun by the Aviation Security in the domestic terminal of the Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport.

Mojibur Rahman, the Agriculture Affairs secretary of the Satkhira District Awami League was detained for not disclosing the issue of carrying a weapon with him, on Friday.

He also claimed to be a retired sergeant of Bangladesh Army.

Confirming the matter to the Dhaka Tribune, Aviation Security Director Wing Commander Nur-E-Alam Siddique said: “The detainee was supposed to board on the Jessore bound Novo Air flight scheduled to take off at 7pm.”

“While the bag checking was going on, our security team noticed the gun and also found 35 rounds of bullets during the scanning at the time,” Wing Commander Nur said.

The wing commander added: “When the airport securities asked him about the weapon he was carrying, Mojibur was unable to give any proper explanation.

“He was handed over to the Airport police station later.”
