With the Eid-ul-Fitr getting closer, Bangladesh Railway has decided to start the advance selling of train tickets on July 26 in an effort to facilitate the comfortable journey of homebound people.
“All arrangements have been made. The advance ticket sale will continue for five days till July 30 beginning on July 26 together everywhere,” Divisional Railway Manager, Chittagong Sukumar Bhowmick told UNB over phone on Saturday.
He said they expect that the Eid will be celebrated on July 9, and if it delays by a day they will extend the timeline for selling the advance tickets by one day.
The tickets for the journey of August 4 will be available on July 26 while that for August 5 will be sold on July 27.
Meanwhile, tickets for August 6 will be sold on July 28 and that for August 7 will be sold on July 29 and tickets for August 8 will be available on July 30, the Railway official said.
The Divisional Railway Manager, Dhaka and Divisional Commercial Manager, Dhaka could not be contacted despite repeated attempts to know the Railway’s special arrangements for carrying the Eid passengers.
Sukumar Bhowmick, however, said they will arrange additional trains or coaches depending on availability and requirement.
On security issues, he said they have already held a meeting for ensuring the foolproof security during the Eid journey. “Apart from our own security measures, elite force Rab has assured us of providing support as it did in the past.”
Bangladesh Railway usually runs special trains from and to the Kamalapur Railway Station three days before the Eid day and three days after the festival.
