The Appellate Division on Wednesday concluded hearing in Bangladesh Nationalist Party’s chairperson Khaleda Zia’s application, challenging the lower court order that took into cognisance the charges of Zia Orphanage Trust Fund embezzlement case against her and 5 others.
The apex court also started hearing in her another appeal against the High Court verdict that had rejected a petition challenging her indictment in the Zia Orphanage Trust Fund and Zia Charitable Trust Fund corruption cases by a specific trial court.
The five member bench headed by Chief Justice MD Muzammel Hossain adjourned the hearing till tomorrow morning.
Former attorney general Mohammed Ali and lawyer Zainul Abedin appeared for Khaleda while attorney general Mahbub-e -Alam for the state and lawyer Khurshid Alam Khan defended the Anti Corruption Commission.
Earlier, the special judge court 3 had adjourned until November 27 the recording of prosecution witness in the Zia Orphanage Trust Fund embezzlement case as Khaleda’s lawyer sought time arguing that his client’s application relating to the case was pending with the Appellate Division.
Khaleda was accused of aiding her family members and relatives in embezzling the trust’s fund worth Tk 4 crore which was deposited to the prime minister’s account by Saudi Commercial Bank as a donation in 1991 while she was Bangladesh’s prime minister.
