The Anti-Corruption Commission has ordered arrest of the seven, including former Bridges Division Secretary Mosharraf Hossain Bhuiyan, charged with ‘conspiring to exchange bribes’ in the Padma bridge project, Commissioner M Shahabuddin said on Wednesday.
The anti-graft body on Monday filed a case against the seven, including some senior government officials, for their alleged conspiracy to hire Canadian construction firm SNC-Lavalin as consultant for the project.
However, the government on Tuesday appointed Bhuiyan, one of the key accused in the case, an Officer on Special Duty (OSD).
The other six accused are Superintending Engineer (River Training) of the Bridge Authority Kazi Mohammad Ferdous, Roads and Highways Department Executive Engineer (Bridge Construction and Maintenance Division-4) Riaz Ahmed Zaber and four SNC-Lavalin officials.
“We formed an inquiry team yesterday (Tuesday). They have already been ordered to make the arrests,” the Commissioner said on Wednesday.
He said measures had been taken to prevent any hindrance during the arrest.
Asked about the Commission’s efforts to prevent the accused from fleeing the country, he said, “The inquiry team has been asked to take proper steps in this regard.”
ACC Deputy Director Abdullah Al Zahid had accused the seven in a case filed with the Banani Police Station.
