The Rana Plaza collapse killed 1138 people, injuring over a thousand and many others are still missing
The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has approved the charge sheet against 18 people including Sohel Rana and his parents for their alleged involvement with the construction irregularities in building the nine-storied Rana Plaza.
ACC Commissioner M Shahabuddin has confirmed the matter to the Dhaka Tribune.
Earlier, the ACC did not included the name of Sohel Rana with the case as the building was owned by his father and the name of Sohel Rana was not found in any of the documented evidences.
However, later the authority included his name as they found his involvement in the case.
On June 15, the Anti-Corruption Commission has filed a case against 17 people including parents of Sohel Rana, the owner of the building that collapsed on April 24 last year, killing more than 1000 people.
The accused in the case include Savar municipality mayor Refayet Ullah, Rana’s father Abdul Khalek and mother Morjina Begum, the architect of the building and associate professor of the architecture discipline department of Khulna University ATM Masud Reza, Savar municipality ward 7 councilor Mohammad Ali Khan, and three garment unit owners – Phantom Apparels Ltd Chairman Mohammad Aminul Islam, New Wave Bottom Limited Managing Director Bazlus Samad and Ether Tex Limited Chairman Azizur Rahman.
According to the inquiry report, the local Savar municipality initially approved the building for a six-storied building and then gave the approval for a 10-storied building, though the municipality has no authority to approve buildings over six storey.
