Police claimed to have seized the black microbus which was seen in CCTV footages to follow the three motorbike-riding assailants after murder of Superintendent of Police (SP)’s wife Mahmuda Khanam Mitu and believed to be a backup force for the killers from Chittagong city.
Confirming the seizure of the microbus, Chittagong Metropolitan Police (CMP) Commissioner Iqbal Bahar told the Dhaka Tribune over phone that the microbus was recovered from the Chittagong city Wednesday evening.”
“Police were verifying all the information of the microbus”, he added.
However, the CMP boss did not want to disclose the detailed information regarding the seizure saying that the details will be revealed on Thursday at CMP headquarters.
Earlier in the morning, CMP’s Additional Commissioner (Crime and Operation) Devdas Bhattacharia told the journalists: “Police are working to collect all information about the black microbus… and we are trying to trace out it where the microbus moved after accomplishing the killing mission.”
On Tuesday, CMP commissioner, after scrutinizing the CCTV footages, said the law enforcing agencies have pretty sure that the microbus was kept at the crime scene as a backup force for the killers.
“Usually militants use to keep a backup force during their operations. It did not use at the operation as it was not necessary during that. If it was necessary the attackers might have used it,” said Iqbal Bahar.
Mahmuda Khanam Mitu, wife of SP Babul Akter, was stabbed and shot to death by three unidentified motorbike-riding assailants in front of her son Akter Mahmud Maheer near their house in Chittagong city’s GEC area on last Sunday when she was going to drop her son at school bus.
