Drilling at the well number 7 in Kailashtila gas-field at Gopalganj under Sylhet district has begun.
The drilling started on Friday noon in presence of Petrobangla Chairman Hossain Monsur and other senior officials of BAPEX and Petrobangla.
BAPEX (Bangladesh Petroleum Exploration and Production Co Ltd) said the drilling would cost them Tk 2.2 billion.
Earlier on Sept 17, 2013, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina formally inaugurated the drilling during her visit to Sylhet.
Kailashtila gas-field Deputy General Manager and Project Director Kamrul Islam Sardar told reporters that there was a prospect of extracting 25 million cubic feet of gas and 500 barrels of crude oil from the well every day.
He said the drilling work would be completed in four months.
BAPEX had earlier discovered oil and gas after conducting seismic surveys at the site.
According to the surveys, the well has a reserve of 44 million barrels of oil and 658 billion cubic feet of gas.
