An expatriate along with his family is living in constant fear after a Juba League leader was arrested over conflict with them at Biprobelghoria village in Natore’s Naldanga upazila.

Jahurul Islam and his family – wife and two daughters – have been keeping themselves indoors for around three weeks.

His daughters Rita Parvin and Suraiya Begun, who study in Class VIII and Class IV respectively, are the worst sufferers as they are falling behind in school.

Victim Jahur held a press conference on Friday, seeking protection for his family from the clutches of Upazila Juba League Joint Secretary Touhidur Rahman Liton and his accomplices.

He said he started erecting a building after recently returning home from Saudi Arabia one and a half months ago. Later Liton and his accomplices came up with a demand for around Tk2 lakh from him.

Liton along with his accomplices suddenly attacked his house on September 22.

Depicting how Liton and his accomplices swooped down on them on that day, Jahurul said he along with his wife Lovely were resting at his three-storey house in the afternoon.

Suddenly, Liton and his accomplices stormed into the house and attacked them. They tied him up on a tree and hit him mercilessly and took him to their den.

They even did not even spare his wife of their wrath. They beat her and snatched her necklace. Besides this, they robbed the family of Tk1.5 lakh and an iphone. They also stripped the wife naked and took photos of her private parts.

Police rushed to the spot and rescued Jahurul and arrested Liton. They even had to fire two rounds of bullets as his followers tried to snatch him from the police van.

Naldanga police station Officer-in-Charge Aslam Uddin said they were trying to arrest the rest of the criminals involved in the attack.

Jahurul’s father Sonaullah Baten has lodged a case against nine persons, including Liton, with police.

After a four-day remand, Liton was sent to jail yesterday.
