Khaleda Zia has lashed out at the ruling Awami League accusing it of taking “killers” on board.
At an Iftar programme of pro-BNP doctors’ forum DAB on Monday, the BNP chief made the latest claim hinting at the Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal (JaSaD) and Jatiya Party (JP) joining the government.
“The Awami League killed JaSaD activists,” she said referring to JaSaD’s role in the post-independence era between 1972 and 1975.
“They (the Awami League and the JaSaD) used to call each other ‘murderers’. But now, the JaSad has taken part in the Awami League-led government,” Khaleda said.
She again dubbed the government “illegal” saying, “All the killers, including Ershad, are with it.”
Khaleda’s party that led a front boycotted general elections of Jan 5 this year demanding a non-party government’s supervision in the elections.
But the Awami League went ahead with the vote under its own supervision as the caretaker provision was scrapped through the 15th Constitutional Amendment.
The Awami League-led coalition won a predictable two-thirds majority in Parliament as the election returned over half the seats winners without contest.
Former military dictator HM Ershad’s Jatiya Party emerged as the largest opposition party.
It also took part in the government.
Referring to it, Khaleda said, “Another murderer Ershad, too, is with the government.
“These killers have united and established a reign of killing.”
